Shibru Dube began producing coffee five years ago but struggled to reach market. In 2023, while on his way to meet a potential buyer in Yirgacheffe, he was in a motorcycle accident that left him with two broken legs, limiting his ability to manage the farm. At the same time, rising cherry prices discouraged him from pursuing quality improvements.

With renewed buyer interest, Shibru has since committed to producing specialty coffee, working alongside his son, Kefyalew, who helps manage the family’s business while teaching civics in Addis. For Shibru, the prospect of a stable market has brought not just a path forward for his coffee, but also a sense of renewed optimism.
